“Piet and the Wooden Statue” is a short film about a young boy who befriends the wooden statue on his grandfather’s portable mechanical organ when she appears to come to life. The atmosphere of the film is magical and nostalgic, with slightly surreal overtones, enhanced by the delicate set design, costumes, music and locations.
It is set in the late 1960s, with costumes and props from that era highlighting both the innocence and timelessness of childhood. Camera angles and movement will retain a romantic, sentimental feel. The music track will consist of dreamy modern soundscapes as well as a melancholic theme for the organ.
The location of Piet’s home is on a property near the historical village of Millthorpe in regional NSW. The town in which the family takes their portable organ is the quaint village of Molong, with a population of 1650, nestled between the rolling greens hills of the agricultural shire of Cabonne. The historical streetscape and surrounds is still virtually untouched by modern amenities, with narrow streets, cows in paddocks and sleepy creeks trickling over moss and granite rock.
