“Piet and the Wooden Statue” is a whimsical short film about a young boy who lives in country NSW with his father and eccentric Dutch grandfather in the late 1960’s.
When young Piet’s father introduces his new girlfriend to the family, he sets about searching for his absent mother’s approval. In the process, he realises that before he can find the answer, he will need to remember his mother first, considering all the memories he has of her are based on daydreams.
He recalls the events of the past week - playing in the park, watching the ducks on the creek, and walking with his grandfather with the mechanical portable organ through the nearby village. One day, to Piet’s amazement and delight, the statue on the organ suddenly comes to life and a close bond blossoms between the two unlikely friends…
Will Piet’s new friend be able to help him accept the inevitable changes in his life?
